Cottonwood Pass is now officially closed for the winter season. Chaffee County Road 306 is closed at the Denny Creek Trailhead, marking the annual winter closure for the pass, which crosses the Continental Divide at an elevation of 12,120 feet.
Typically, Cottonwood Pass remains closed from mid-fall through late spring due to heavy snow accumulations. The road will likely reopen around Memorial Day weekend next year, weather permitting.
For those planning trips over the Continental Divide, alternate routes such as Monarch Pass on U.S. Highway 50 remain open year-round, weather permitting.
