On October 8th, 2024, the Salida Police Department received information of a possible case involving an adult having an inappropriate relationship with a juvenile. After receiving the information, Detectives immediately began an investigation which resulted in criminal charges for Nicholas Engelhart, 31, of Salida. Nicholas is currently a registered sex offender in Chaffee County.
Detectives obtained an arrest warrant for Engelhart and he was later arrested and placed into the Chaffee County Detention Center on a $50,000 cash only bond.
Engelhart was charged with the following:
· C.R.S. 18-6-701(1)(b) – Contributing to the Delinquency of a Minor in the Second Degree – A Class 1 Misdemeanor (One Count)
· C.R.S. 18-3-402(1)(e) – Attempted Sexual Assault – A Class 6 Felony (Two Counts)
· C.R.S. 18-2-101 – Criminal Attempt – A Class 5 Felony (Two Counts)
· C.R.S. 18-3-402 – Sexual Assault – A Class 6 Felony (One Count)
