Colorado Attorney General Phil Weiser has officially announced his candidacy for governor in the 2026 election.

Weiser, a Democrat, has served as the state’s attorney general since 2018 and was reelected in 2022. During his tenure, he has focused on consumer protection, public safety, and environmental issues.

Current Governor Jared Polis, also a Democrat, is term-limited and will not be able to seek reelection in 2026.

Weiser’s announcement sets the stage for what could be a competitive race to determine Colorado’s next governor. Additional candidates are expected to enter the race in the coming months.
