This November, the Chaffee Housing Authority (CHA) is proposing two critical measures aimed at addressing the ongoing housing crisis in Chaffee County.

The first measure seeks to eliminate the current Taxpayer Bill of Rights (TABOR) spending limits, allowing CHA to retain more funding from state, local, and grant sources beyond the TABOR caps. This change, often referred to as “De-Brucing,” would help the CHA maximize its resources for affordable housing initiatives.

The second proposal involves implementing a county-wide half-cent sales tax increase. Expected to generate $3.5 million annually, the tax would sunset after 12 years and directly fund CHA’s housing programs and projects. Both measures are designed to provide the necessary financial support to expand affordable housing options in the region.
