The Chaffee County Sheriff’s Office has received multiple reports of scam calls targeting residents.

Scammers are impersonating law enforcement officers, even using the names of actual officers in Chaffee County. Callers claim that the recipient missed a court date or jury duty and now has a warrant for their arrest. They then demand payment and provide instructions on how to send the money.

The caller ID may appear to show “Police Department” or “Sheriff’s Office,” but officials stress this is a scam. Law enforcement will never call to demand money.

If you receive such a call, simply hang up. If you have already fallen victim to this scam, please contact Chaffee County Dispatch’s non-emergency number at 719-539-2596.
