Chaffee County, CO – Chaffee County Public Health is excited to highlight two unique and meaningful activities at this year’s Embracing Aging Expo, set to take place on Friday, September 13th, 2024 from 9a-2p, at the Chaffee County Fairgrounds. These activities are designed to foster connection, compassion, and community among older adults.
Sentimental Swap Shop: Connecting Through Cherished Memories
Do you have a treasured keepsake with a story to tell? The Sentimental Swap Shop offers a special opportunity for Expo attendees to connect with one another by exchanging small, sentimental items and sharing the heartfelt stories behind them. Whether it’s a piece of jewelry, a beloved photo, or a memento from a special trip, participants are invited to bring a meaningful item they are willing to give away. This activity is not just about the exchange of items, but about the celebration of the moments and memories that make our lives rich and fulfilling. The Sentimental Swap Shop is a wonderful chance to make new friends, share beautiful stories, and celebrate the meaningful connections that define us.
Workshop: Providing and Receiving Support During Life’s Critical Moments
Navigating life’s most challenging times can be difficult, both for those experiencing hardship and for the loved ones who wish to support them. In the workshop titled “Providing and Receiving Support During Life’s Critical Moments,” experts Aimee Kandrac and Ashley Parsons will guide participants through the complexities of giving and receiving support during difficult times. This workshop will offer practical tips and insights into the emotional landscapes we encounter during life’s critical moments. Attendees will gain valuable tools to better support loved ones in need
and to seek help when facing their own challenges, fostering a stronger, more compassionate community.
These activities are part of a broader effort by Chaffee County Public Health to provide older adults with opportunities for connection, learning, and support. The Embracing Aging Expo is designed to provide participants with the resources they need to lead healthy, independent lives while fostering a strong sense of community.
