The Chaffee County Board of Health, comprised of the Board of County Commissioners, yesterday voted unanimously to keep the current event cap of 5,000 people.
The vote comes as Chaffee County continues the process for a special event permit for the Seven Peaks Music Festival. Their application is asking for just over 20,000 people. Live Nation, the promoter of Seven Peaks, has already sold 7,000 tickets to the proposed Labor Day concert to be held at The Meadows in Buena Vista.
Chaffee County Public Health Director Andrea Carlstrom told the board, “We are still very much in a pandemic. People are hospitalized and are dying from Covid-19. In Chaffee County, we’ve had seven new positives in the past seven days and 18 in the last two weeks.” Carlstrom added that 80 percent of the new positive cases are the new Delta variant.
The Chaffee County Board of Health meets monthly to review and possibly modify the public health order.
The San Luis Valley is reporting 52 known cases of Covid-19 with 15 of those cases in Saguache County.
Chaffee County Public Health continues their free, walk up Covid-19 vaccination clinics today. The State’s Mobile Vaccine Bus will be parked at the Buena Vista High School front parking lot from 10 am to 6 pm.
The bus will be in Salida tomorrow and Saturday from 10 am to 6 pm both days at Thonhoff Park near the Chaffee County Courthouse.
