Chaffee County Commissioners convened as the 1041 Permit Authority yesterday to continue the hearing on Nestle Waters North America/Blue Triton Brands request for a 10-year extension of the 1041 permit for a spring water facility in Johnson Village.

Commissioners heard a presentation from Blue Triton Natural Resource Manager Larry Lawrence. In response to public comments from opponents, Lawrence stressed, “There is no data suggesting that our operations have had a negative impact.” “For the past 11 years,” Lawrence said, “Nestle/Blue Triton has followed the rules and regulations set by the County Commissioners and our 1041 permit, which contain significant conditions to protect the environment, economy and community.”

Lawrence concluded, “We provide good-paying jobs, we’ve restored and enhanced our property along the Arkansas River, and there is no data suggesting that our operations have had a negative impact. We operated with the county in compliance for ten years with no conflict, controversy or opposition. We hope for an opportunity to continue working together for the benefit of this community and our customers, for another ten years.”

Following the Blue Triton presentation, Chaffee County Commissioners reviewed the permit conditions and set the next 1041 hearing for June 24.
