Chaffee Chips is extending its wildfire mitigation efforts with free neighborhood slash removal and chipping services this fall. The program helps landowners create defensible space around their homes to reduce wildfire risks. Upcoming service dates are scheduled for:
- October 22–24: Lower Chalk Creek and Weldon Creek
- November 5–7: Hayden Springs Ranch and Eureka Moon
Since its launch in 2020, Chaffee Chips has assisted 750 landowners in building 2,300 slash piles, which were either chipped on-site or removed by the Colorado State Forest Service and Chaffee County Fire Protection District.
To further reduce wildfire threats, landowners can request a free property assessment from a Colorado State Forester by calling 719-539-2579.
