The Canon City Police Department is seeking information from the community after a man allegedly shot an individual in the face, led officers on a pursuit through town and fired at officers last night. 

Canon City police were dispatched to investigate a report of an individual who had been shot. When officers arrived on the scene, they encountered a victim who had suffered from what appeared to be a single gunshot wound to the face. Officers immediately began CPR on the victim. Minutes later, a vehicle fitting the description of the same one occupied by the suspect was located by officers. 

The suspect led officers from Canon City Police, Fremont County Sheriff’s Office and Colorado State Patrol on a pursuit, while ramming an occupied Canon City Police vehicle and also firing an unknown number of bullets, striking the same Canon City Police vehicle. 

The suspect crashed his vehicle and was apprehended by officers. 

The suspect was identified as 37-year-old Richard James Salazar of Denver.

The victim, whose name is being withheld at this time, was airlifted to Parkview Medical Center in Pueblo. The victim’s current condition is unknown. No officers or additional citizens were injured during the incident.
