Buena Vista Correctional Inmate Tests Positive for COVID-19

The Colorado Department of Corrections has announced the positive case of COVID-19 in an inmate at the Buena Vista Correctional Complex. 

The inmate has been in quarantine since arriving at the prison March 26th and never entered the general population. 

  • Chaffee County Public Health is reporting that there are now 38 cases of COVID-19 in the county. 
  • 19 of the 34 cases are at Columbine Manor in Salida.    
  • Three people have died from COVID-19 in Chaffee County.
  • Custer County is reporting 2 cases of COVID-19
  • Lake County Public Health is reporting 4 positive cases of COVID-19.
  • Saguache County has 3 cases.
  • Fremont County has 6 positive cases. 
  • Gunnison County is reporting 95 positive cases and yesterday announced the second death in Gunnison County due to COVID-19. 

Statewide today, 193 deaths have been confirmed, including the state’s first person in their 20s–a 21-year-old Mesa University student, 1,162 hospitalized as cases total more than 5,655.
