The Bureau of Land Management (BLM) has approved a decision for the partial expansion of the Hard Rock Paving and Redi-Mix sand and gravel pit in Salida. This expansion will extend the lifespan of the mine by 30 years while preserving the Solstice Mountain Bike Flow Trail in its current location.
The BLM has planned a 30-foot buffer zone between the mine and the trail, along with the installation of a visual barrier. The decision reflects a balance of competing interests on public lands, aligning with the BLM’s mandate to manage for multiple uses.
