On Friday February 07, 2025 the Chaffee County Sheriff’s Office received a call from the United States Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) concerning a Mexico resident that was potentially in our community who was wanted for multiple felony warrants out of Oklahoma. The warrants were for four counts of raping juveniles. The male party, Juan Jose Avila Hernandez, age 23 of Mexico, was believed to be working somewhere in the Chaffee County area.
Following tips provided by ICE, Chaffee County Sheriff’s Office Deputies were able to successfully locate Hernandez, the same day, in Buena Vista, CO and he was arrested without incident. Hernandez was transported to the Chaffee County Detention Facility, booked into jail on the warrant and then release the same day to ICE.
“Our deputies did a great job locating Hernandez so quickly and assuring he could not harm anyone in our community. Hernandez was listed as a sexually violent predator. As stated before, we will assist ICE when they are searching for undocumented immigrants that are wanted for violations of law other than just their legal status of being in the United States.” -Sheriff Andy Rohrich
