The petition against the new Residents at Salida Bottling Company subdivision has been certified sufficient by the Salida City Clerk.

The petition needed 256 signatures and 320 were determined to be valid.

Organizers of the petition questioned the proposed 16-unit complex to be built at 323 West 1st Street in downtown Salida—the current site of a dirt parking lot—after the city planning commission and city council gave their approval. Objections included height, density and the lack of parking.

The next step is for the city council to re-vote on the project. If council votes again to approve, then the measure would go before the voters. The vote must take place between 60 and 150 days of the council’s vote, presumably in November.
