A Howard man has been arrested on bear poaching charges. 52-year-old Paul Stromberg is accused of killing a mother and her two cubs.

Colorado wildlife officials say anonymous tips and social media posts led them to evidence the bears bad been shot and dumped on a state trust field. The investigation led officers to seek a search warrant for a home near Howard. Officers said they found evidence the bears had been shot on the property on September 25th.    

The Colorado Sun is reporting that Colorado Parks and Wildlife officers arrested 52-year-old Paul Stromberg on suspicion of illegal destruction of wildlife, a felony, and misdemeanor counts of unlawful killing of wildlife without a license and unlawful possession and waste of game meat.

Stromberg was taken to the Fremont County Jail and later released on $10,000 bond. The charges could result in $13,000 in fines and up to six months in jail.
