Salida, CO – Join filmmaker Sarah Hamilton for an exclusive screening of her award-winning short documentaries River Mamma and Dolly’s Song on Tuesday, March 18th at 6:00 PM at The SteamPlant in Salida. This special event will raise funds to support Hamilton’s travel expenses for her latest project in India with Elisha McArthur of Canyon River Instruction and Worldwide Women of Whitewater (and star of River Mamma!). Hamilton will be capturing the work and lives of the Nari Nauka, the first-ever all-female guide school in India on the Ganges River, to produce a new film, Against the Current.
Hamilton, a director and editor based in Salida, has spent over a decade in the film industry, earning acclaim for her work exploring the intersection of gender and the outdoors. Her films highlight the extraordinary stories of women who break barriers in traditionally male-dominated spaces. River Mamma chronicles the journey of a single mother and raft guide, while Dolly’s Song showcases one of the first women trail workers. Both films have garnered attention on the festival circuit, with River Mamma winning the 5 Point Adventure Film Fund and being selected for the Banff Mountain Film Festival World Tour.
At Tuesday’s event, Hamilton will provide insight into the making of both films, followed by a sneak peek of her current in-production project, Against the Current. This documentary will follow the courageous women who are shaping the future of rafting in India.
Doors will open at 6:00 PM, and the suggested donation is $20. All proceeds will go toward funding Hamilton’s travel and flights to capture the footage for Against the Current. Your support will help bring this powerful story to life and further Hamilton’s mission to amplify women’s voices.
Don’t miss this chance to be part of a community that champions women’s stories in film. We look forward to seeing you at The SteamPlant!
