A Female in the Chaffee County Detention Facility Has Tested COVID-19 Positive

A female housed within the Chaffee County Detention Facility has tested positive for COVID-19.

Chaffee County Sheriff John Spezze says the female was transported to the facility last Monday on an outstanding warrant out of Fremont County with a $10,000 cash only bond. Before admittance to the jail, COVID protocol was followed and the female was checked for any symptoms of the coronavirus, however she asymptomatic.

Due to logistical matters the jail staff tested her for COVID so she could be moved into the general female population and it was for that reason that the positive results were discovered.

Chaffee County Public Health was immediately contacted in regard to the positive test and they continue to work closely with jail staff to ensure the best procedures to follow to care for the jail’s population and staff.

Arrangements are underway to test anyone who came into close contact with the female to determine infection and to prevent continued spread.
