Several major infrastructure projects are about to begin in Salida, aiming to improve mobility, aesthetics, and functionality throughout the city.
The Downtown Streetscape Project will enhance accessibility and pedestrian experience by upgrading ADA ramps, intersections, and drainage systems while replacing aging water services. New public amenities will include bike parking, planter beds, and tree plantings. Additionally, removable bollards will be installed to facilitate street closures on F Street during special events. This project is partially funded by a grant from the Colorado Department of Local Affairs.
The Oak Street Improvement Project is transforming a critical corridor with new bike lanes, sidewalks, curbs, gutters, and utility upgrades. The first phase, completed in 2024, focused on the stretch from Highway 50 to B Street, with future phases extending to Elm Avenue. This initiative is supported by the Colorado Department of Transportation.
The West Highway 291 Improvement Project will bring similar enhancements from Rush Drive near Heart of the Rockies Regional Medical Center to M Street near Marvin Park. Improvements include bike lanes, sidewalks, curbs, gutters, and essential drainage upgrades, with construction scheduled for next year.
Additionally, the city is planning a Safe Routes to School project, which will improve pedestrian connections throughout Salida. This project is anticipated for 2026, pending funding.
