The community is invited to share feedback that will help shape the future of parks, recreation, and trails in Poncha Springs and southern Chaffee County.

The Town of Poncha Springs is currently in the process of updating their Parks and Recreation Master Plan, which was last updated in 2011. Great Outdoors Colorado (GOCO) awarded the Town of Poncha Springs a $90,000 planning and capacity grant; the Town is working with KLJ Engineering to update the plan.

After acquiring over forty acres of land designated for parks and open space, the Town of Poncha Springs is working with various stakeholders throughout Chaffee County to develop a plan that will address the increased need for recreation amenities. Since the adoption of the 2011 Parks Master Plan, Poncha’s population has grown by fifty percent. Chaffee County has also experienced significant growth, and Poncha Springs is taking an equitable approach to ensure they develop future parks and recreation spaces that are inclusive and meet the needs of the growing community.

This parks and recreation plan will act as a road map for the development of future parks, trails, and open space in Poncha Springs and southern Chaffee County. The Town of Poncha Springs is seeking feedback from the public to gain an understanding of the recreation needs of community members and visitors.

The community is invited to attend an Open House on Thursday, November 21 at the Chaffee County Fairgrounds in the exhibit hall from 5:30 PM-7:30 PM. Drop in any time and share your feedback, there will be several hands-on activities that will help to facilitate conversations and understand community needs. Take a few minutes to learn more about the project and visit the website below and share your feedback in the survey. The project website will be available for public input through December 8, 2024.
