Colorado Parks and Wildlife (CPW) recently met with commissioners from Garfield, Pitkin, Rio Blanco, and Eagle Counties to discuss plans for the release of wolves in these regions—a shift towards transparency after previous releases were conducted without public notice. These four counties are under consideration as release sites for 10 to 15 wolves, sourced from British Columbia, during the upcoming capture and release season beginning in December.
This reintroduction effort follows the passage of Proposition 114 in November 2020, where Colorado voters directed CPW to establish a self-sustaining wolf population west of the Continental Divide. With this season marking a significant step forward, CPW is committed to collaborating with local counties and residents to address any concerns and ensure successful integration of the wolves into their new habitats.
