Linda Stanley, District Attorney for Colorado’s 11th Judicial District, was officially removed from office on Friday following a Colorado Supreme Court order that disbarred her. Stanley, who can no longer hold the DA position without a valid law license, has been barred from practicing law in Colorado or aiding in legal practices within the state.
The court’s decision follows numerous ethical violations, largely related to Stanley’s management of the Barry Morphew case—a high-profile prosecution for the alleged murder of his wife, Suzanne Morphew.
In response, the 11th Judicial District Court appointed Jeff Lindsey to serve as interim DA for Chaffee, Fremont, Custer, and Park counties, until the end of Stanley’s term in January. Lindsey, the only candidate on the ballot for the DA position, is anticipated to transition into the role permanently at the start of the new term in January.
