The U.S. Forest Service has announced plans for two prescribed burns in the Arkansas River Valley. One burn will take place at North Trout Creek, located four miles east of Buena Vista, covering just over 1,200 acres. The second burn is at Threemile Creek, three miles west of Centerville, and will cover 345 acres.
Ignitions could begin as early as tomorrow, depending on weather conditions, and are expected to take one to four days at each site. Smoke will be visible for several days throughout the valley once the fires begin.
These prescribed burns are part of ongoing efforts to improve forest health and reduce the risk of larger, uncontrolled wildfires.
