Owners of Return to Nature Funeral Home May Be Offered Plea Deal Amid Federal and State Charges

The Department of Justice is reportedly considering offering a plea deal to Jon and Carie Hallford, the owners of Return to Nature Funeral Home in Penrose, who are facing 15 federal charges, including wire fraud. The charges stem from the discovery of nearly 200 improperly stored bodies at their funeral home, where investigators found the remains stacked on top of each other and left to decompose.

An email sent to victims’ families yesterday did not specify the terms of the potential plea deal. This federal plea consideration follows a state-level plea offer made to the Hallfords in July. The couple is currently facing over 250 state charges related to the same incident and has pleaded not guilty to the federal charges.

The Hallfords are scheduled to enter a plea on their state charges next month.
