Chaffee County, CO – Chaffee County Public Health is pleased to announce that we are the first in the area to offer an innovative new ten-week health and wellness program to residents 55 and over. The Aging Mastery Program® (AMP) was developed by the National Council on Aging (NCOA) and has been successful at helping older adults build their own playbook for aging well. We have offered four successful cohorts with over 30 participants in Salida, and we are excited to offer this dynamic program in Buena Vista for the spring cohort.
This is a wonderful opportunity for older adults to participate in, and reap the benefits of, this cutting-edge program. We are currently recruiting twelve adults, ages 55+ to participate in the ten-week educational program.
AMP is a fun, innovative, and person-centered education program that empowers participants to embrace their gift of longevity by spending more time each day doing things that are good for themselves and for others. The program encourages mastery—developing sustainable behaviors across many dimensions that lead to improved health, stronger economic security, enhanced well-being, and increased societal participation. Cecil Rhodes, a member of the first cohort in Chaffee County shared, “The Aging Mastery Class gave me a new lease on life. I am stronger, healthier, and happier than I have been in a long time.”
We will host the classes at The Buena Vista Library beginning April 3rd from 4:30-6:00. We are thrilled to be offering this class free of charge for the first time thanks to the Area Agency on Aging’s generous donation of class supplies.
If you are interested in registering for the program, call the Buena Vista Library at 719-395-8700. If this program piques your interest and you would like to learn more call Molly Bischoff at 970-309-9145. Hope to see you on April 3rd!
