Chaffee County Public Health is launching Narcan trainings for overdose prevention.

Chaffee Public Health will be providing overdose awareness and prevention training at local bars, restaurants, and music venues.

In 2021-22 there were 6 overdose deaths in Chaffee County. Chaffee County EMS reports that during the same time period Narcan was administered as a response to an overdose 18 times.

Narcan is a drug that is used to reverse opioid overdose and is typically administered as a nasal spray. The Narcan training that public health will provide aims to better equip service industry workers and the general public to respond to a potential overdose.

Over the next few weeks Chaffee Public Health will contact local venues, bars, and restaurants to best determine their needs and offer training if desired. Public training for interested community members will also be offered in the upcoming months.
