Critical fire weather conditions continue today. More widespread fire conditions are expected Thursday.
A Red Flag Fire Warning has been issued for Thursday due to gusty winds and low relative humidity.
The High Park Fire burning 6 miles west of Cripple Creek has scorched about 1,600 acres, or about 2.5 square miles.
Fire officials say the fire is 70 percent contained, mostly on the north and west sides of the blaze. Helicopters fought the fire yesterday, making water drops and supporting ground crews who were building containment lines. The fire started last Thursday, and 280 personnel continue to work the fire.
A new wildfire is burning seven miles north of Pagosa Springs and evacuations are underway. The Plumtaw Fire has burned over 600 acres. Several large air tankers, two other aircraft and three helicopters worked the fire yesterday.
The fire was reported yesterday afternoon. The cause of the fire is under investigation.
Firefighters in Manitou Springs doused a fire yesterday off Highway 24 near Cave of the Winds. The fire started at about 6:30 pm and was under control by late last night.
