The number of known active cases of Covid-19 in the San Luis Valley has risen sharply over the past week, from 67 on December 28th to 182 today.
It is anticipated that may more local people will get Covid-19 in the coming weeks. Some will be hospitalized.
Based on observations of Omicron variant data from other locations, local public health authorities are hopeful that a smaller percentage of new cases will require hospitalization that with the Delta variant. Hospital capacity continues to be a concern in the San Luis Valley and across the state due to Covid-19 and other respiratory illnesses.
