The Decker Fire, burning in the Sangre de Cristo Wilderness Area in the San Luis Valley, has doubled in size to 245 acres.

The Decker Fire remains active, as it reached the ridge between Simmons Peak and Methodist Mountain. The fire continues to back down the east side of the ridge.

Flames may be visible from Salida and the Highway 50 corridor.

Additional resources arrived yesterday to manage the fire. Firefighters will continue to monitor the fire and work to ensure that the fire remains within the national forest.

Fire managers have transitioned command of the Decker Fire to a Type 3 organization to better manage incoming resources.

Lightning started the fire last Sunday.
