The Salida Chamber of Commerce is reporting that counterfeit $100 bills are circulating through businesses in Chaffee County and surrounding counties.
To see if it is a real $100 bill, hold the bill up to the light. When doing so, look for an embedded thread running vertically to the left of the portrait. The thread should be imprinted with the letters “USA”.
If you are unsure, ask for an alternate form of payment. If customers do not comply, you can call the Salida Police Department.
