On Friday, August 6, at approximately 2:55 am, inmate Chancey Colwell escaped from the custody of the Teller County Detention Facility in Divide, Colorado.
Colwell was assigned as an inmate worker for the past 2 months and during the performance of his duties last night, managed to escape.
On Monday, Colwell was sentenced to 34 years in the department of corrections. 36-year-old Chancey Colwell fired at a Canon City police officer and deputies form two other jurisdictions during the November 21, 2020 pursuit that ended in Teller County. He had five outstanding warrants from Fremont and El Paso counites at the time of his arrest.
The FBI is currently assisting the Teller County Sheriff’s Department with this investigation. If you see Colwell do not attempt to approach. Expect heavy Law Enforcement traffic in the area and please report anything suspicious to Teller County Sheriff’s Office. 719-687-9652
