The Cotopaxi man convicted in the shooting death of 27-year-old Jonathon Kern on September 22, 2018, has been sentenced to a total of 14 years in the Department of Corrections.   

A jury found 66-year-old Earl Scott Watkins, guilty of criminally negligent homicide, possession of a dangerous weapon and tampering with physical evidence.   

District Judge Ramsey Lama found each of those counts to have aggravating circumstances and sentenced Watkins to 14 years.
