Chaffee County Commissioners will continue the Nestle Waters North America hearing today.

Commissioners will convene as the 1041 permit authority and begin deliberations on Nestle’s request to extend their existing 1041 permit for a spring water production process, associated transmission pipeline and loading facility in the Ruby Mountain area.

The opposition group Unbottle and Protect Chaffee County Water says they have shown where mistakes were made in the original 1041 permit and those mistakes give the commissioners the ability to deny the permit extension.  The groups biggest concern is that the benefits of Nestle’s local operation don’t outweigh the loss to the county.

Nestle officials countered claims that the original permit was sloppy or flawed by noting that the original permit hearing included 96 hours of testimony during seven meetings and resulted in 44 permit conditions.
