A Buena Vista man is in the Chaffee County Detention Center today after a low speed chase over the weekend witnessed by many Buena Vista residents.
Deputies with the sheriff’s office on Saturday spotted 42-year-old Jason Luther Willis, whom they knew had numerous arrest warrants. Willis had eluded officers on several occasions in the past. When deputies attempted to contact him, Willis fled on a low power scooter.
Officers pursued Willis at low speeds throughout Buena Vista and he was finally arrested north of Buena Vista when he tried to flee on foot after his scooter became stuck on the railroad tracks. Willis was taken into custody without injuries.
Willis was booked into the Chaffee County detention center on numerous charges including DUI, Resisting Arrest, and a Felony Warrant out of Park County.
The Buena Vista Police Department and Colorado Parks and Wildlife assisted in the pursuit.
