Winter Storm Watch Issued For Sunday

A Winter Storm Watch is in effect from Sunday afternoon into Monday afternoon.

Snow will be heavy at times. Significant snow possible, favoring higher terrain locations. The Valley could see 3 to 5 inches, while the mountains could see up to a foot of new snow.

The Winter Storm Watch has been issued for Lake, Chaffee, Fremont, Pueblo and Huerfano counties as well as southern El Paso county and the Rampart Range below 7400 feet, the Wet Mountain Valley below 8500 feet and the Wet Mountains.

Travel could be very difficult. The hazardous conditions could impact the Monday morning commute.

A cold front will spread gusty north winds up to 40 mph across southeast Colorado tonight. Light snow and freezing drizzle will be possible along the crest of the Palmer Divide shortly after midnight before changing over to snow by Sunday morning. Patchy drizzle, freezing drizzle and flurries will be spread into the northern slopes of the Raton Mesa and lower eastern slopes of the southeast mountains towards Sunday morning.

Much colder conditions are expected over the region from Sunday into Wednesday with snow, moderate to heavy at times also possible. The higher terrain has the highest potential for accumulating snow from Sunday evening into Monday morning and then again from later Tuesday into Wednesday.
