Two Die in Avalanche Near Vail

Search and rescue crews have recovered the bodies of two people who died over the weekend after an avalanche in the Muddy Pass area north of Vail.

The victims have been identified as 28-year-old Dillon Block and 30-year-old Cesar Almanza-Hernandez both of Gypsom, CO.

A third male involved in the avalanche was able to free himself and contact authorities.

All three were snowmobiling in the backcountry before the slide.

The Colorado Avalanche Information Center is rating the avalanche danger in the northern mountains as considerable.  Dangerous avalanche conditions exist.  Cautious route finding and conservative decision making is essential. The avalanche danger in the central mountains is said to be moderate.
