The Salida City Council will meet for a work session today at 5 pm.
A discussion with Salida Fire Chief Doug Bess concerning alternative July 4th public displays will take place.
Chief Bess says that because of the Decker Fire and increased risk of wildfires, the city needs to consider alternative forms of celebrating rather than fireworks.
Possible alternatives: continue with the fireworks managed by the Salida Fire Department, have an outside company conduct the fireworks, perform a laser display, use drones, or do away with a city sponsored display all together.
A regular meeting of the Salida City Council follows the work session at 6 pm.
