Snow Expected In The Arkansas River Valley Tonight

A hazardous weather outlook and a Winter Weather Advisory has been issued as moderate to heavy snow is expected tonight.

Snow will develop across the region this evening (Oct. 23), before spreading southward across the southeast mountains and plains overnight. Locally intense snowfall rates of up to 2 inches per hour will be possible along the east and northeast facing slopes of Pikes Peak, the Wet Mountains, the southern Sangre De Cristo mountains, along the I-25 corridor, Chaffee and Fremont Counties.

Widespread snowfall will continue into early Thursday morning, but will diminish by early afternoon. Snow totals of 5 to 9 inches will be possible across portions of El Paso County, and the Arkansas River Valley.

Roads in and near the mountains will quickly become slushy, slick and snow covered with the onset of heavy snow, and travel impacts are expected to continue into the Thursday morning commute.

Warmer and drier weather returns across the area Friday and Saturday, with more unsettled weather possible later Saturday night through Tuesday.
