The Greater Arkansas River Nature Association will offer a summer camp programs for the youth of Buena Vista.
Stream Explorers, offered in partnership with the Collegiate Peaks Chapter of Trout Unlimited and Buena Vista Recreation, is a four-day camp offered for rising 5th – 8th graders. This camp focuses on stream ecology, the life of aquatic macro-invertebrates, fish anatomy and habitat, fly tying and fly fishing.
Students who complete all four sessions will receive a Trout Unlimited youth membership. The dates are July 25th, 26th, and August 1st from 9:00 am – 12:30 pm and August 2nd from 9:00 am – 2:00 pm. Sessions will take place at the Creekside Gathering Place in Buena Vista and on the last Friday, shuttle transportation will be provided to a fishing location.
The program is free, but registration is required by July 22nd Space is limited.
Dan attended Arkansas State University from 1978 to 1982--where he picked up the name "Dan R" after his fraternity brothers couldn’t pronounce his last name. He lived in Jonesboro for 10 years working in radio and as a TV weatherman. His radio career has had stops in Nashville, Memphis, Oklahoma, and eventually, Colorado.
Dan enjoys being involved in the community, having been a member of the Upper Arkansas Service Club and is currently on the board of directors for the Salida Community Center and is a member of the Chaffee County Fair Committee. He and his wife Carrie spend their days doing everything the mountains have to offer: hiking, camping, fishing and skiing. They've raised 3 children and have 2 grandchildren.
