Chaffee County Public Health Urges Vaccinations as ‘Omicron’ Becomes COVID-19 Variant of Concern

Chaffee County Public Health is reporting 53 new Covid-19 cases in the last 7 days and 141 in the last 14 days for a two-week positivity rate of 6.95%.

Heart of the Rockies Regional Medical Center is currently at 36% capacity with 2 patients currently hospitalized with COVID-19. Based on the increasing Covid-19 cases in Chaffee County, Heart of the Rockies Regional Medical Center has implemented several restrictive measures

Chaffee County Public Health is closely monitoring developments related to the Omicron variant that has risen to a “variant of concern” over the past several days.

There are still many unknowns related to this particular variant, and CCPH will be adhering to any Centers for Disease Control and Prevention and Colorado Department of Public Health and Environment requirements or recommendations as they evolve.

It is imperative that people get vaccinated and boosted, wear a mask when in indoor public places, and consider participating in less risky events and activities to keep the spread of the virus tamed, to protect yourself and the people you love, and to avoid a hospital surge.

This is not the time to let our guard down, with or without the introduction of a new variant.
