Boys golf returns to play as opening tournament for Demons is Friday

The High School athletic season is finally here! Well, kinda.

The boys golf season officially got under way on Monday afternoon in Buena Vista, as after orientation and temperature checks, 14 boys spread out at Collegiate Peaks Golf Course to get started.

Buena Vista Head Golf Coach Scott Crites

Head Boys Coach Scott Crites says while he is trying to replace a pair of solid competitors in Kik Molitor and Layton Chupp from the 2019 team, there is plenty of good talent that will challenge for positions.

At the head of the push though are Chandler Smethers and Cole Reavis, who both gained experience at the regional tournament last year. But with so many students out for the team, this year will be one where there is not play off round that won’t have spots on the line early on.

Crites also says tournament structures may be different this year as well, with less shot gun starts and more tee times spread out to allow for better distancing on the course. This could mean later returns than normal, and longer days than normal for the team.

With all of the changes though, players and coaches were thrilled to be out on the course, and can’t wait to take to the links in Cedaredge on Friday, when Buena Vista tees off at noon.
